ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDERS
HONOR MILLBURN HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONS:
SWIMMER CAILLEY SILBERT
& FENCER RICKY ESCHENBACH
(Newark, NJ) – During its Wednesday, April 11th, meeting held at South Orange Village Hall, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored two Millburn High School State Champions: Cailley Silbert for winning the 2012 Individual 500-Yard Freestyle State Championship in swimming, and Ricky Eschenbach for winning the 2012 Individual Epee State Championship in fencing.

Millburn High School sophomore Cailley Silbert won the 2012 New Jersey State 500-Yard Freestyle Championship during the NJSIAA Girls Swimming Meet of Champions held at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey, on March 4, 2012. As one of only 35 swimmers invited to participate, she achieved the fastest time in the Preliminary heats, and then finished first in the Finals, with a time of 4:53.64, to capture the championship.
Earlier in the season, Cailley also won the Super Essex County Conference/Essex County Championships in both the 500-Yard Freestyle and 200-Yard Freestyle events, setting new meet records in both events. As a member of the Millburn High School Girls Swimming Team, she also swam in both the 200-Yard and 500-Yard Freestyle Relay events, helping her team compile a conference dual meet record of 8-1, an overall dual meet record of 11-3, and to capture 2nd place at the SEC/ECC Dual Meet Championships.

Millburn High School junior Ricky Eschenbach won the 2012 New Jersey State Individual Epee Championship at the New Jersey State Fencing Championships held on March 4, 2012, at Montgomery High School in Skillman, New Jersey. He compiled a 7-1 record in final pool play, and then went on to capture his state championship crown in a thrilling 5-4 fence-off victory.
As a member of the Millburn High School Boys Fencing Team, Ricky compiled an impressive overall record of 56-9 and a 17-4 record in dual meets. He was undefeated, 7-0, in individual competition at the District 3 Championship, where he won the individual Epee Championship, and where his 8-2 record in team competition helped his team capture the Epee Team Championship.
Ricky was named to the First Team All-State by the New Jersey Interscholastic Fencing Association and The Star-Ledger, and he is currently ranked #9 in Junior Epee points by the United States Fencing Association.
