ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDERS
       CONGRATULATE NJIT PROFESSOR HAIM GREBEL

Physicist was Recognized by the Board for having been named the Recipient of the
NJIT Board of Overseeers’ “Excellence in Research Prize and Medal”

Dr. Haim Grebel (center), Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NJIT, was honored by the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders at its December 14, 2011, meeting held at the Hall of Records in Newark. Dr. Grebel was honored for having been named the recipient of the NJIT Board of Overseers' "Excellence in Research Prize and Medal". (Newark, NJ) – The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored NJIT (NJ Institute of Technology) Professor Haim Grebel of Livingston during its Dec. 14, 2011, meeting at the Hall of Records in Newark.  Dr. Grebel is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NJIT, where he is currently the Director of the Electronic Imaging Center and a member of the Materials Science and Engineering Program.

Professor Grebel was honored by the Freeholder Board for having been named the recipient of the NJIT Board of Overseers’ “Excellence in Research Prize and Medal” in recognition of his work in nanotechnology, and specifically his work on lasers, on the identification of flu viruses and anthrax, and studies of the properties of artificial structures on the micron and non-scales.

Professor Grebel is an Israeli-born and trained physicist who earned his Ph.D. in physics from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, before he was recruited to establish an optics lab at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.  He joined the faculty at NJIT in 1987.  He has received research funding and support from the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation and NASA, and his work has produced four patent awards, more than 90 scholarly papers and more than a dozen invitations to present his research.

Professor Grebel has resided in Livingston for more than 20 years.  He and his wife, Judith, are the proud parents of two children.free
