ESSEX COUNTY EXECUTIVE DIVINCENZO RECOGNIZES EMPLOYEES WITH TEAMWORK AWARDS FOR OCTOBER

Newark, NJ - Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. presented seven County employees with Essex County Teamwork Awards for October during an informal ceremony Wednesday, October 8th in his office.

"I am impressed with our Teamwork Award winners this month because they epitomize the commitment and personal dedication I want all our employees to strive for," DiVincenzo said.

From left to right the names are:
Mark Johnson, Willie Derricotte, Donna Seay, Ila H. Shah, MD, "T" Tatawwu Holiday, Harry DelPlato, ESQ, Willie Norman.

Employees receiving the Teamwork Awards for October are as follows:
  • Harry J. Del Plato of Roseland is an attorney in the County Counsel's Office where he specializes in health and governmental affairs and has represented Essex County in litigation involving the Essex County jail system since 1988. A County employee for 16 years, he was recognized for being a "consummate professional" and a "team leader."
  • Willie Derricotte of South Orange has been an engineer in the Department of Public Works for 16 years. He has worked on seven of the 12 County playgrounds that were upgraded this year and completed the design of a traffic signal and intersection improvements at Broadway and Arlington Avenue in Newark in just three months in response to the public's concern about safety.
  • Tatawwu Holiday of Newark has been a Senior Clerk Typist in the Department of Economic Development, Training and Employment for almost three years and is responsible for accurately maintaining 400 personnel files. Described as "the backbone" of the office, she is committed to her job, always pleasant and never complains about any task.
  • Corrections Officer Mark Jackson of East Orange has worked in the Essex County Jail Processing Department for 17 of his 20 years with the Department of Public Safety Division of Corrections. Sometimes admitting as many as 60 inmates during a single shift, he was described as "a consistent example of a dedicated and trustworthy officer."
  • Willie Norman Jr. of East Orange is a 21-year employee of Essex County and currently works for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs as the Park Supervisor in Ivy Hill Park in Newark and Orange Park. He worked his way up through the ranks and, since being named Supervisor, has made significant improvement in the parks he manages.
  • Donna Seay of Newark has worked for Essex County for five years and has been Special Transportation Manager in the Department of Citizen Services for the last two and a half years. She has become a Certified Community Transportation Supervisor and Certified Community Transit Manager and personally monitors Essex County's Night Owl and Route 10 Reverse Commute Pilot Program by following the buses on their routes.
  • Dr. Ila H. Shah of Wayne is Clinical Manager of Patient Care at the Essex County Hospital Center and has been employed by Essex County for 22 years. She was recognized for her thorough and caring relationship with her patients and their families.

Supervisors and Department Directors from each of the County's seven departments nominated employees for this award. The chosen employees exemplify the County Executive's goal for a unified, cooperative workforce that provides good customer service. Employees who were honored were invited to attend an informal reception in the County Executive's Office where they received a citation from the County Executive. Pictures of the winners are on display on the fourth floor of the Hall of Records outside of the County Executive's Office and will remain there during the month of October.
