The street address for the Essex County Correctional Facility is 354 Doremus Avenue in Newark. Parking is available for family members and friends visiting inmates. In addition, NJ Transit bus No. 25 Springfield Avenue will take visitors directly to the Visitor’s entrance at the Essex County Correctional Facility. The bus will have “Essex County Correctional Facility” on its front message board. For fare information and schedules, please visit NJ Transit’s web site at www.njtransit.com.
VISITATION SCHEDULE: Effective November 2, 2007, the following schedule will take effect.
Attorney Visits: 8AM - 4PM (Except 1:30pm – 2:30pm)
ATTORNEY VISITS AFTER VISITING HOURS SHALL BE MADE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
General Inmate Population Visitation:
Building 2 and Building 5 (Non-Contact)
Wednesdays and Sundays from 11:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 2:00 p.m.)
Thursdays and Saturdays from 3:15 to 6:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 6:00 p.m.)
Building 3 and Building 4 (Non-Contact)
Thursdays and Saturdays from 11:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 2:00 p.m.)
Wednesdays and Sundays from 3:15 to 6:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 6:00 p.m.)
Contact Visit Schedule (Must Meet Criteria): Fridays for entire facility
11:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 2:00 p.m.)
3:15 to 6:45 p.m. (Visitors will not be allowed in after 6:00 p.m.)
The following Dress Code policy is in effect:
Visitors will not be allowed to wear mini skirts, mini shorts, tube tops, tank tops, blouses with thin straps, jackets, no head garment outside of religious attire
**Inmates on disciplinary sanctions shall not be permitted visits.
Each inmate is entitled to one (1) visit per visiting day for 15 minutes in length.
All visitors shall present valid and current forms of identification upon requesting a visit. Acceptable credentials are the following:
· Valid driver's licensee
· Valid Employment I.D. with photograph and /or physical description
· Valid Federal, State, County or Municipal identification cards
· Valid college identification with photograph
· Valid Welfare/Medicare card
· Valid passport
Three (3) children up to age 18 will be permitted to visit with a custodial guardian and proof of guardianship . Children must always be supervised by their guardian at all times.
Visit by lawyers, clergy and others approved by the Warden will not count against the special visiting quota. Visitation privileges with privacy will be provided.
Special visits may be arranged through the Social Services Office or the Ombudsman with approval of the Warden.
Visitors with proof of out of state residence will be afforded visitation that will not count against inmates regular visits.
