ESSEX COUNTY EXECUTIVE DIVINCENZO ANNOUNCES 'EARLY BIRD' DISCOUNT FOR GOLFERS TO RENEW COUNTY ID CARDS
Extended Hours for Registration Are Offered at Three Public Golf Courses
Newark, NJ - Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that golfers can take advantage of a discounted adult rate to play at Essex County's three public golf courses if they renew their Golf ID Cards with the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs from Monday, January 4th to Monday, March 15th.
"We recently completed extensive renovations that modernize infrastructure, restore historic elements and enhance access at each of our three public golf courses. We invite our residents to enjoy our beautiful and picturesque facilities and test their skills on our challenging greens and fairways," DiVincenzo said. "Our extended on-site hours and register by mail process makes it easy to renew or obtain your golf ID card," he added.
The "Early Bird" discount is being offered to golfers who renew their County Golf ID Cards between Monday, January 4th and Monday, March 15th. Golfers who currently pay the "adult" rate can renew their Golf ID Cards by mail or in person to lock in the reduced adult rate of $40.00. (The regular adult rate is $45.00.) All other rates are not discounted.
Essex County has three public golf courses: Francis Byrne Golf Course in West Orange, Hendricks Field in Belleville and Weequahic Golf Course in Newark. Current rates are as follows:
Adult $ 45.00 ($40.00 Early Bird Special)
Senior/Junior/Disabled $ 25.00
Senior Seasonal Permit $450.00
Replacement Card $ 25.00
Out of County Cards $300.00 (Byrne, Hendricks and Weequahic)
$150.00 (Hendricks and Weequahic)
(Out of County Cards enable non-Essex residents to reserve tee times at least five days in advance.)
To renew in person, golfers must bring their current Golf ID Card and two proofs of residency (one proof must be a current Driver's License or photo ID and the other proof may be one of the following: Voter Registration Card, or bill from PSE&G, phone or cable), along with their cash, credit card or check (made payable to the Essex County Department of Parks) to the Essex County Parks Administration Building, 115 Clifton Avenue, Newark. The Golf ID Unit is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Golfers can also renew their Golf ID cards at each of Essex County's three public golf courses on selected evenings and Saturday mornings. Extended registration hours are as follows:
Weequahic Golf Course, Elizabeth Avenue, Newark
Tuesdays, March 16th and March 23rd from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thursdays, March 18th and March 25th from 5 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays, March 20th and March 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon
Hendricks Field Golf Course, Franklin Avenue, Belleville
Tuesdays, March 30th and April 6th from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thursdays, April 1st and April 8th from 5 to 8 p.m.
Saturday, April 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon
Francis Byrne Golf Course, Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange
Tuesdays, April 13th and April 20th from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thursdays, April 15th and April 22nd from 5 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays, April 17th and April 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon
To renew by mail, golfers must send their current Golf ID Card and copies of two proofs of residency (one proof must be a copy of a current Driver's License or photo ID and the other proof may be a copy of one of the following: Voter Registration Card, or bill from PSE&G, phone or cable), along with their check or money order (made payable to the Essex County Department of Parks) to: Essex County Parks Department, Attn. Golf ID Unit, 115 Clifton Avenue, Newark, NJ 07104. Letters must be postmarked by March 15th to receive the early bird discount. New golfers and those who are changing their status or address must obtain their Golf ID Cards in person.
Checks and money orders should be made payable to "Essex County Department of Parks." Cash will only be accepted when Golf ID Cards are renewed in person.

The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 20 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, golf driving range, three off-leash dog facilities, a castle and the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
