HISTORY

South Mountain Arena was designed to provide skating and non-skating activities to the general public for children and adults of all ages year round.

The original rink was completed in 1958 with a seating capacity of approximately 2,500 spectators. A second rink was added in 1983 with a seating capacity of approximately 500 spectators. In 1986, South Mountain Arena became the official practice and training facility of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.

From 2004 to 2005 many new renovations took place throughout the skating facility: a new state of the art lobby of 14,000 square feet was added. This area includes a skylight, automatic doors, three party/meeting rooms, concession stand, pro shop and arcade. Rink one has new seats, boards, glass and compressor. Rink two has a new dehumidification system.

FROM ROUTE 280 WEST:

• To exit 10 (West Orange).
• At the top of the r (traffic light), make a left onto Northfield Ave.
• At the ninth traffic light make a left into the Arena.

FROM ROUTE 280 EAST:

• To exit 7 (Pleasant Valley Way). At the traffic light, make a left onto Pleasant Valley Way.
• At the second traffic light make a left onto Northfield Avenue the Arena will be a 1/4 of a mile down on the right hand side.

FROM 80 EAST:

• Exit onto Route 280 East.
• Follow directions above for Route 280 East.

FROM THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY:

• To exit 145 to Route 280 West (The Oranges)
• Follow directions above for Route 280 West

FROM THE NJ TURNPIKE:

• To exit 15W to Route 280 West (The Oranges)

ROUTE 78:

• To Route 287 North

FROM THE LINCOLN TUNNEL:

• Take NJ Turnpike South to exit 15W.
• Take Route 280 West

FROM THE HOLLAND TUNNEL:

• Take the Pulaski Skyway to US 1&9 South.
• Take exit for Route 280 West
• Follow direction above for Route 280 West

VERRAZANO NARROWS BRIDGE:

• Take Goethals Bridge to NJ Turnpike North to exit 15W.
• Take Route 280 West
